The first step is to choose yarn best suited for your project. There is a wide range of weight, texture and type in yarn. There are yarns which should be used for soft, gently scarf stuff and others to wrapup yourself with a blanket in cold nights! You want to select the correct yarn so that it looks nice and feels right.
Especially when you are just starting in knitting or crochet, it is best to choose an easy one. That means choosing yarn that is not too fuzzy, slippery nor bulky. If the yarn is too unwieldy or slippery, you will end up making learning so much harder than it has to be. You do not want to use chain so skinny, that it makes the project flimsy; or yarn thick as can be and hard for your stitches to go through properly. Yarn weight is the thickness of yarn and different projects require a specific size to be able to do it better.
Using yarn with several different colors can try a nice addition to your projects. Affords you the ability to create color palettes that are exciting and colourful. Different colored and textured yarns also give nice contrast to your pieces. Multi-color yarns always make you feel like doing something fun, here are a few to inspire your creativity.
Or alternate a solid colour with rainbow yarn to really make your project stand out. One option might be to use a solid green yarn for the lovely scarf you have just designed and then add one row of another colorway that includes all greens. The synergy of the two is exactly what we need to give us a beautiful appearance.
Then, make sure to fallow a color scheme. On this note, you want colors that go well together. Don't forget about complementary colors, blue and orange are opposites on the color wheel so they go hand in hand. Or you could select colors that are right next to each other…which would be similar colored greens and yellows. It may result in a really nice looking and even effect on your project.
And lastly, remember what you are creating. However, some projects such as blankets and afghans work well with numerous colors without appearing too cluttered. Smaller items, like hats, may be a better size for only two or three colors. Therefore, it creates a well-balanced and coherent look for your project.
Also, keep in mind the weight of your yarn. If you are planning on using your yarn for a rug or anything larger that needs the support of thicker yarn, than go with more substantial weight. For details and minor pieces such as table runners use smaller sized type thread. Picking the proper thickness can help guarantee your final project will be useful and stunning.
