One of the first steps in manufacturing FDY yarn is to obtain our materials. Polyester Chips are the main stuff to produce FDY yarn. This is what the tiny bits of plastic chips used to create yarn look like. A special machine melts these polyester chips to initiate the process. The chips are melted until liquid and thick. The liquid polyester is finally filtered to separate and get rid of dirt bits or other stuff that made their way in at some point during the melting.
After the polyester is melted, it needs to be spun into fibers. The liquid polyester is pushed through tiny holes of a machine known as spinneret. Despite its small size, the holes are very smaller in nature too which cannot be seen by naked eyes akin to his head eye of a needle!!! Then it cools down rapidly in jets of air as the melted polyester exits through those little holes. This is intended to solidify the fibers from a liquid back into solids.
Next its fibers are formed which when passed to the stretcher and twister, the required strength an texture is imparted to them. This is done using a machine named as godet. How it works As the previously formed fibers are pulled by means of driven godets through sets of drawing rollers, which stretch and twist them as they travel in-stream from a drafting zone to a winding face. This phase of stretching and twisting is essential in order to fully strength the fibers by aligning them properly.
FDY yarn manufacturing is a process that requires close attention and accuracy. Producing the yarn takes a great deal of care and attention to produce high quality yarn. The most critical part of this process occurs during the spinning, where fibers are extruded through microscopic holes in the spinneret. A crucial step in this process is controlling the size and shape of these holes.
